Rodent Extermination
Fast, effective removal — and the sealing work that keeps them from coming back.
Rodent calls climb every autumn as temperatures drop and roof rats and house mice look for somewhere warm. Once they are in an attic or crawlspace they breed quickly, chew through insulation and wiring, contaminate stored items, and are remarkably good at staying out of sight while doing it.
Removal on its own does not solve a rodent problem. If the gaps that let them in are still open, you are managing an ongoing situation rather than ending one. That is why our work is split between getting them out and keeping them out.
Getting them out
We identify the species, because roof rats and house mice behave differently and need different placement. Then we set traps on the paths they are actually using and the spots where they nest — along joists, in attic corners, behind appliances, through the crawlspace — rather than wherever is easiest to reach.
Keeping them out
This is the part that matters, and the part most often skipped. A house mouse fits through a gap the width of a pencil; a roof rat needs little more than the size of a quarter. We seal the ways in:
- Foundation vents, crawlspace access doors and damaged skirting
- Gaps around pipes, wiring and HVAC lines
- Soffit and fascia gaps, roofline junctions and loose ridge vents
- Garage door sweeps and weatherstripping
- Dryer and bathroom exhaust terminations missing their covers
- Tree limbs and heavy vegetation giving direct roof access
Cleaning up after
Rodents leave droppings, urine and nesting material behind, and contaminated insulation in a crawlspace or attic will keep smelling and keep attracting. We will tell you honestly whether cleanup and insulation replacement is warranted in your situation, or whether it is not worth the money.
Signs you have rodents
- Scratching or scurrying overhead at night, particularly just after dark
- Droppings in the pantry, under sinks, in the garage or along attic joists
- Gnaw marks on food packaging, wiring or wooden trim
- Shredded insulation, paper or fabric gathered into nests
- A persistent musky, ammonia-like smell
- Pets fixating on a wall, vent or ceiling area for no obvious reason

How long does it take to get rid of rats or mice?
Most jobs resolve over one to three weeks depending on the size of the population and how much access the property offers. The trapping work is usually the quick part; the sealing work is what determines whether they return.
Do you use poison?
We prefer trapping and exclusion, especially indoors where pets, children or staff are present. Poisoned rodents frequently die inside a wall or under a floor, which turns a rodent problem into an odour and fly problem that is far harder to solve. Where bait is appropriate it is used in secured stations, and we will discuss it with you first.
Why do they keep coming back?
Almost always because the entry points were never closed. Removal without exclusion treats the symptom — new rodents simply follow the same route in, often within weeks. If you have had repeat problems after previous treatments, the sealing work is what was missing.
